Hi guys,
I finally got all the stuff together and built my pc yesterday (1st one I built!).
It was great fun and it all worked well. The pc is working great but I have a few questions that I'd like to ask you if you don't mind.

My pc doesn't beep when I start it. No sound at all. I'm used to my old PC, that once I started it up it would give me a beep, that I assumed all pc's did. Well mine doesn't, it's completly silent when I start it. Did I forget something?

I'm using the MSI z170a mpower gaming titanium mobo (if that helps).

Also, I am using a coupld of gskill memory sticks for a total of 16gb. These memory are 3000mhz. By default the system lowered the frequency, but I enabled the XMP on the bios at it defaulted to the correct 3000. But, I'm still not convinced, is there some sort of software that I can use to check my frequency? I have CPU-Z but I believe it only tells me the current frequency not the max (it's telling me a every slightly changing 1069.3 mhz dram frequency at the moment, for example).

EDIT: I just found out that I can check ram speed by using the cmd 'wmic memorychip get speed'.
Apparently I'm still at 2133 speed, any advice on how to change the frequency to the memory's 3000 would be appreciated!

Thanks

It won't be integrated these days.

Looking at your board, you don't have to have a speaker - your board uses LEDs for troubleshooting purposes.

Look at "EZ DEBUG". That takes the place of 'beeps' for troubleshooting. The single 'beep' is just a successful post. You don't actually need that, as display etc is pretty indicative of being successful.

You should still be able to add a speaker if you really wanted to (most people don't - they use it for troubleshooting only).
If you want one, you're looking at ~$5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812201032

You need a motherboard speaker to hear any 'beeps'. Historically they were integrated, or at the very least, supplied with the motherboard - they're being supplied less & less, specifically on more 'budget' orientated boards. You can pick one up for a couple of bucks and add it, if you really want/need it. It'll attach next to your case I/O (PWR, HDD LED, RESET etc)

As for your RAM speeds, CPU-Z should show you your accurate DRAM frequency under the 'memory' tab (well, half anyway, as DDR is "double data rate"). Double it & that's the speed you're running a. XMP enabled should be sufficient to increase from the 'base' 2133MHz to the rated speed of the modules you purchased.

Hi Barty1884, thanks for the reply.
I got the memory thing sorted, it's now running at 3000 mhz!

The no beep thing is stressing me, how can I tell if the mobo speaker isn't integrated in it? I checked the page but can't find any information about this: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z170A-MPOWER-GAMING-TITANIUM.html#hero-overview

It wasn't one of those 400 euro+ motherboards in terms of price, but it was quite pricey (mid range I'd say) so I'm not sure if it's either faulty or maybe I forgot to connect something?
