2x GPU 1x VR HMD 1x 4K TV 1x PC Possible?

Hello and thank you for your time.

Im wanting to make a VR room with one PC and the oculus rift or htc vive and i what friends to be able to see what happening in the HMD on a 4k tv without hindering the fps of the VR HMD.

My question is can i achieve this by having 2x 980 ti one for HMD and one for 4k tv?

If this can not be done, how would i go about achieving my goal?
Note: if 4k is pointless as the games are not in 4k what resolution would you suggest?

You don't need a second GPU to get an image on the screen/TV of what's being shown in the VR headset, it does that by default.

It will be less than 4K on the TV, but a high resolution TV may still be beneficial.

Would there be a performance difference for the VR user between not showing the image on a tv than to show it?
I think somehow if the GPU has to output the HMD and the TV surely it requieres more GPU power to do that instead of just the VR HMD?

What about if i had a projector instead of TV? Would the same apply?
