D drive is missing from My Computer?

Earlier I went to download something, and then it popped up asking me where to put the file which I thought was strange because it's never done that. I attempt to put it in my downloads folder, but its not there. I then assume that a SATA cable is not plugged in all the way as I was messing with my computer earlier. I turn everything off, open it up, look inside and everything is normal. I booted it up again and then everything was fine, the D drive was there. Now, a few hours later, the D drive is missing again. The only correlation between the two events I can think of is I put the computer on sleep shortly before each time. Is there any explanation to this and/or how can I fix it? Any help is appreciated!

PS: I have already done research, every suggestion is to go and look under device management then format the drive, but my D drive does not appear in device management.

Hi there FriedSalmon,

You have a single, physical disk with two partitions right?

I believe that you were supposed to go to Disk Management. Here's how: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Abz3vf
See if there is some unallocated space. In case there is some, you will need to use some partition/data recovery tool. Once you retrieve your data, you can back up your most important data stored on the drive, and test it afterwards, so you can make sure it is in a good condition: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Let me know how this goes,

Sorry when I said device management I meant disk management, the D drive does not appear in disk management

So you have two partitions of the same physical drive right? (or two separate drives)
It would be a really nice idea to post a screenshot of Disk Management. Just upload the screen to an image hosting website.
Do you see any unallocated space in Disk Management?

In case we are talking about two separate drives, then you can attach your D HDD with different calbes to another port.

Cheers,

Two seperate drives. SSD is C drive, HDD is D drive. C and D drives both appear when I start up the computer and everything is normal. If I put the computer to sleep, and then come back to it, the D drive will be completely missing, as in not appearing at all in disk management. Also, I know they're attatched wioth different cables, this hasn't been a problem until a couple days ago.

Oh, alright. :)

I see that you were not facing those issues a couple of days ago, yet cables could go bad. So, can can just switch the cables. Attach your HDD with the cables of your SSD. We need to rule out possible causes. You can attach it to another SATA port as well, as this sounds like a connection related issue.

Have you done any updates recently?

Can't switch SATA cables right now, will try when possible. I did a Windows update recently, that's all that I can think of. But also, I don't see how it can be a connection problem, if it works fine until I put the computer to sleep?

In case you don't understand:

1. Turns on computer
2. C and D drive are present
3. Puts computer to sleep
4. Wakes up computer
5. C drive present, D drive missing
