Can't OC cpu if I enable XMP?

Hi, recently purchased and built my new pc. I am using an MSI Z170A Mpower Titanium mobo with a par of DDR4 8gb Gskill memory and a intel 6700k processor.

To be able to use my 16gb of ram at 3000mhz I enabled XMP and it works great, my question is, once I do this why am I unable to change CPU ratio and frequency?
I also noticed that if I enable the "Game OC" settings for quick cpu OC to 4.4ghz it turns off the XMP aswell, and my memory freq rolls back to default.

How can I enable XMP and still be able to OC the cpu in the bios?

Thanks

Software OC, like the Game OC settings, don't just change the cpu multiplier like a manual OC can. It changes many things like current limits, LLC, turbo settings, EiST etc. But the biggest change is it uses BCLK. This is the main buss speed multiplier clock. Normally it's set at 100.0, so all your numbers are basically a varient of 100 (42 multiplier x 100 BCLK = 4200MHz, or 4.2GHz). The buss clock is tied into everything, the cpu, gpu, Northbridge, pcie, USB, ssd, hdd etc it's the communication speed. By xmp setting dram at 3000, if you bumped BCLK to 105, that would be 30x105 instead of 30x100,so your ram speed would be 3150 and this could potentially be either harmful or unstable, so the software will set your ram to 2133 with...

Hi, I finally got it working. I had to do both OC's manually. For some reason I can't use both preset OC settings (for cpu and ram) at the same time.

What do you suggest I do to test if the sytem is stable with these new settings?

Thanks for the info, ran both stress and benchmark tests.
The benchmark test result was:

Image Editing: 41962
Time: 121.252

Encoding: 171548

OpenCL: 90189
KSamples/sec: 2335

Heavy Multitasking: 181084
Time: 54.008

System Score: 103157

----------------------------

I'm using the Rog Strix GTX1070 OC, but I haven't oc'd it at all myself.

The stess test I ran for 15 minutes, 16gb. The CPU max temperature was 70ºc, but I am using a (modest) but still decent Noctua NH-12s with a single fan.

What do you think of these results? Should I add a second fan to the Noctua cooler?

Thanks again

It's basically removing 1 OC and replacing it with another. Doesn't always work out as you'd like.
