Why does my system prevent me from playing anything that takes more than 2 gigs of ram even though I have PLENTY of gigs of ra

I might as well explain my delima here. Imagine this:
Your computer has 11 gigs, right? You try to launch something that has a 8 gig requirement.
Ok, it goes smoothly until it starts taking up 2 gigabytes. THEN the system decides to shut it off.
Why?

I literally have NOTHING else running, so only the system is taking up ram (2 gigs), and it clips other processes to 2 gigs. How do I fix this or why is it doing this?
It's happened to Minecraft too, I had to clip it's memory usage.

Problem is it's NOT a 1G stick. It's a 4G stick, and I don't want to lose that RAM. Also, my computer has 12 gigs available TOTAL, but it can't use 1.1 of those gigs.

Download a program called "Speccy" and it will tell you all of what he is asking for.
