EXPLANATION:

If found this site, with this offering: (CLICK HERE) for $1199

... and was thoroughly flummoxed. Those prices seems to be ridiculous, and I tried to see if they were duplicatible.

So I asked myself, could I build a small form factor ITX with a i7-6700 (with iGPU 530) for video editing?

----------------------------------------------------

GOALS and CONSIDERATIONS:

1) To build a small, lightweight video editing rig. Around 10 pounds/4.5kg or less, hopefully much less,

2) I considered the Skull Canyon, but a 6700HQ is under-powered compared to the a 6700. And the Skull Canyon seems to have on going driver issues. Were it not for thos driver issues, I would go for it.

3) A quad-core i7 is imperative. Video editing is CPU - more than GPU - intensive.

4) I don't want to overclock, so the 6700K is not important. Moreover, I want a fanless system. The 6700k uses 25 W (91W vs 65W TDP) more power than the 6700.

5) I do not need more than 512 GB storage. The overage can go to an external drive
----------------------------------------------------

So here is my build:

Costs are rounded up to the nearest $5.

I am new to this. So help.

SUBTOTAL $ $1165

Notes: Do I need to buy a bluetooth/wi-fi card? Or does that come with the motherboard,

Now, is the external 120W Power supply enough?

I am planning this for a video editing rig, so gaming is secondary to me. However, could I add a small video card to this????

Remember that this is fanless. I cannot afford high power.

I would've gone with the Skull Canyon, but the problem is that the SC still has considerable driver issues.

Or finally ... is the Lini PC a good buy?! Is it realistic? (CLICK HERE)

I cannot find that much Amazon or Newegg traffic for LiniPC.

I have reversed audio lines, changed ATA HDDs, RAM on older computers, when it was a nightmare, compared to today's modular systems; but I have never built a whole pc. So if this LiniPC is legit, I may go with their product.

I am nervous if I am missing anything.

I think you mean the i7-5775c, the chip used on the 21.5" high end iMac.

I know the Iris Pro 6200 is better; and the Skylake caching is counter-productive. But I want to stick with DDR4 RAM, and Skylake as it is newer.

http://www.howtogeek.com/238990/whats-the-difference-between-ddr3-and-ddr4-ram/

So although Skylake may not offer any tangible benefit over Haswell for gaming, it’s clear that DDR4 can still achieve a marginal number of improvements over DDR3 for anyone who runs more RAM-intensive applications like WinRar or Photoshop on either generation of CPU.

There is also a power issue. I want a fanless operation. DDR4 uses less power.

But look at my build above. I have added more info.

I want to see if I have made a mistake with sizes, with power, with adding wi-fi card (Do I even have to?)?!

Do I just go with LiniPC build, but does anyone even know about this company?

A fully loaded Skull Canyon with 32GB and 512 GB 950 Samsung Pro NMVe is similarly priced; but is has a slower clocked 6700 HQ (2.6 - 3.5 GHz), albeit with a newer iGPU, Intel 580; but video editing is more CPU based.

See here for similar price (CLICK HERE)

However, the Skull Canyon is weaker and has a fan.

I guess the i7-6700, due to having only HD Graphics, will perform worse than the i7-6770HQ, which sports an Iris Pro graphics.
