Hello, I'm a student living in a student house with 5 others. Our internet is provided by virgin media and seems to be working great on our laptops/macs/phones/consoles etc. However my PC is struggling to maintain a solid connection.

I've ran Ookla's speed test on both my Laptop and my PC from the exact same location and the results are massively differing. My laptop has a ping of < 20 and download/upload speeds of > 40Mbps and > 3Mbps respectively whereas my PC struggles to ping at less than 60 and has download and upload speeds of 1.5ish and 0.2.

I have a feeling it's something on the PC that is effecting the connection as in summer I had the same problem and resolved it by doing a reboot of my PC, which as I was wanting to do anyways (killed two birds with one stone) but I'd rather not reboot the whole system every time the wireless starts to play up.

The adaptor is a TL-WDN4800 and the most recent drivers are installed. I would never post within a forum unless I was out of solution videos and web pages all of which I've tried and tested to no success.

For now I'm using my laptop. Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since you are using a PCI card, this could suggest a couple of things.
One: there is something wrong with your mobo, PCI slot, or the card itself.
Two: there could be something not set correctly in the BIOS settings.

Also, what happens when you do a traceroute? What is the time between your PC and Router?

Something else you could try, (if possible) is to connect your PC to a hardwired connection with an Ethernet cable. Then do a ping and see what your speeds are.

Oh! try running R-Kill then do a scan with Malwarebytes. Some malware and viruses are able to disguise themselves to virus scanning software so that they pass as valid programs or services. R-kill pretty much stops all non-essential programs on your system, so that the malware can't fool the virus protection software. It's kind of like R-Kill just cuts off the malware's head lol.

Give that a shot and see what Malwarebytes says,

The problem is still on going and making it difficult to get any use out of the machine. Since the last post I also reset the system and reinstalled windows both to no prevail.

So, where is your computer in relation to the wireless router? Are you on the same floor or a different floor than the router? Is there ductwork between your room and the room the router is in? Are the antennas obstructed in any way?
