Hello! I have a pavilion running windows 7 and there some ghosts in the machine!

The three primary issues I am having problems are:

1. Recently (1-1/2 weeks) fan runs perpetually. I've thoroughly blew out any dust and cleaned the fans. The fan generally starts to run when I'm connected to the internet or after I open applications.

2. I cannot update Windows Update files. After running Window Update Troubleshooter program, it detected two things not "fixed":
• Service Registration is Missing or Corrupt
• Window update error 0x80070490 (2016-09-21-T-05_21_20P)

3. When I try to uninstall any program, a pop up occurs stating that I have to wait until another previous program finishes its installation. I then changed services from auto to off to manual and back to auto, booting each time, and all that did was get rid of the popup (See Attachment.).

I just don't get it.

Are these problems somehow related or an indication to reinstall the o/s?

Thanks!

I suggest running a couple virus scan like Malwarebytes and/or TrendMicro's Housecall, it sounds like that is the issue.

Also, when you can, get rid of quicktime, Apple hasn't been updating the Windows version and it has been found to have many security vulnerabilities.

thanks for taking the time to answer me, Martell. it initially sounded like a viral thing too. i ran malwarebytes (and a few others) earlier, which came up with the usual PUP's, but nothing else. i haven't ran microtrend, but will and i'll post what it finds. i also ran sfc /scannow with no problems noted. i'll be sure to run s&d as well. thanks again!
