Hi guys, I have an Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 2/USB 3.1 and ni the specs sheet it says the following:

Intel® Z97 chipset :
6 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), brown, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (both SATA & PCIE mode)

Does it mean the mobo supports M.2 SSD? Its confusing since other mobos state clearly that they support M.2 but this one states the M Key thing and the storage lenght info but doesnt say M.2.

Thanks!

There is no M.2 slot onboard, no. To use an M.2 drive, you'll need a PCIe add-on card.

I have no idea why they list the key/size is listed under specs.... I suspect they're just listing the supported spec of the Z97 chipset in general, not specifically this board.

I don't think it actually has M.2. Newegg has that line in their specifications but Asus doesn't and I don't see it in any picture. Z97 generally doesn't have M.2, and IIRC when it does it's PCIe 2.0 x2 (10Gbps) not PCIe 3.0 x4 (32Gbps).

M.2 has two different keys - physical designs. One is "M key," so that's all that is referring to.

no M.2 slot on this motherboard, you'll need a PCIe add-on card.
and Z97 not real support M.2(only PCIe 2.0 x2 (10Gbps)),
if you need to M.2, Z170 is good choose.
