Title says it all. I'm trying to save money and the difference in price is monumental. Will I ever even need 6gb or VRAM for 1080p gaming on ultra? The hardest game i'm ever going to run on it will probably be Battlefield 1. The reason I'm asking is because the price difference between the 6gb and the 3gb is $65 in Canada. Also planning on OCing if that's important. Got an i5-4460 so there will be no bottleneck.

I have no personal experience with the RX 470. But My feeling is that the GTX 1060 (3 GB) is a better value for the money. If the 6 GB version is more than your comfortable spending, then either buy the 3 GB variant, or save for the 6 GB. Personally I usually cut out going out to drinks to help me buy technology, or I sell older technology in my home to help supplement a purchase.

It's dual monitors however I play on the main one and watch videos on the second. Nothing like Eyefinity. Will 3gb OCed be good enough for max settings on BF1 (anti aliasing and all?).

Get the 6 GB variant, and here is the reason why: The difference isn't only in VRAM size. There are fundamental technical differences between the GTX 1060 3 GB and 6 GB models. The 3 GB actually has 10% few CUDA cores, plus other structural differences. I suggest that you google it to see the details, but the two cards are different enough that many technical reviewers question Nvidia's decision to market the 3 GB version as an actual GTX 1060. Below is the card that I own. Since I purchased it in the US, it cost me USD$259.99.

EVGA GTX 1060 SC Gaming (6 GB)

I'd assume the memory from two generations ago is faster and can be overclocked more. I assume it'll be hitting 2-2.5 gbs anyway though.

However for 10% more noticeable ingame fps speed and 50% less vram, it costs 25% more ($65 more) which i'm questioning the worth of. Is AMD's RX 470 variant a better option with 1gb more vram?

I dont think you're following because older generation cards (even though they may be GDDR5 as well) run their VRAM as slower speeds. This is why people even bother to overclock mem speeds. It lowers VRAM usage but not as significant as i said. from a card from 2 gens ago compared to now, i'd expect 2.75gb max usage on max to be honest.
