Moving to a new config

Hello,

I am upgrading my PC tomorrow and I had a few questions

1. I will not be changing my hard drive, do I need to reinstall Windows and/or drivers or just connecting the hard drive to the new motherboard will do?

2. My power supply doesn't have 8-pin power connectors. Do I need to change my PSU or are extensions available to make it compatible with a 8-pin powered GPU?

EDIT - FYI my PSU is the OCZ ZS 650W. It has 2x 6-pin connectors.
Any extra advice is also welcome.

Hello!

Here we go:

1) With this it will be best to, whilst you have the HDD running in another system, uninstall drivers so then when you put the HDD into a new system, you can install drivers for your hardware, it should work fine no problems.

2) Extensions will be available because I know that professional PSU's have more than enough cables but for lower end PSU's it would make sense for cables to not be included, try looking on the manufacturers website and they should sell extra cables, if not, good ol' Amazon is your friend :)

Also for extra tips, build your PC on a table or somewhere where you have lots and lots of room, I ended up building mine on a wooden floor :D

Here's another one too, instead of having old GPU's and motherboards lying around, get yourself some anti-static bags you can stick the hardware in so that you can keep the parts, you never know when you'll wake up and want to rebuild your old PC in a new case :)

1. did OS come with the computer or other hardware? if so the license is tied to the Motherboard and if you change the Motherboard you will have to get a new license number and reactivate.

adapter exists I cannot verify if they are effective/safe. they exist though

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I'm gonna let a professional handle the build. I built my current system myself and I screwed up cable management pretty hard, even broke some of the rubber grommets on the case xD
And the old system is going into a new case so that my sister can use it when she passes her 10th grade this March ^^

I activated Windows 10 Pro with the "free upgrade from Windows 10" program. I am not sure whether it carries over, I've posted a question regarding that on Microsoft's forums.
