Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me. I have an Asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3. Put my pc together installed windows and started doing updates. My display then would randomly turn off but the pc would keep running. I'd press the power button once, code 04 would come up then it would turn off. If i try turn it back on, the windows logo would come on as if it were about to boot then same thing, blank display, pc still on, power button pressed, code 04 and shutdown. I've tried reinstalling windows twice now and the exact same situation happens. Any ideas on what to do?

I have a i5 2500k, GSKILL Sniper 8Gb (2x4Gb) DDR3 1866Mhz CL9 (http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-14900cl9d-8gbsr), Raidmax 730w PSU, latest BIOS, no oc its a new build.

Here's what happened, I'll do a clean install of windows on a new drive, everything will work for about an hour then randomly, display, the pc will still run, ill hit the power button, code 04 then it turns off. I'll try turn it on, the windows logo will show for a few seconds, then display off, power button, code 04 then off. This happens on any drive I tried.

I tried clearing the cmos, one stick of ram, different modules, different slots and running memtest. All same results. Code 04 says "South Bridge initialization before microcode loading ".

I have been running it without a GPU and the person I bought the board from says the South Bridge is responsible for onboard graphics.

Next I put in my friends GPU, first tried booting from the onboard graphics(to clarify the issue was still there, it was) changed to GPU display output, worked perfectly, no errors.

So my question is, is my South Bridge damaged or are the onboard graphics on the i5 damaged?

Flip hey, I don't even know now. Took out my memory, blew on the slots, put it back in. Started up, no issues since. Been running the pc for about 6 hours now. Literally nothing has changed. Thanks for all the advice anyway guys.
