Okay - here's the problem.
I have a 5-year old LG TV, which has one USB port. I have two 1TB WD HDDs, each of which works fine separately, and I can view films etc. that are stored on them. However, I recently got a Seagate 4TB drive, which has a USB3 connection. This is NOT recognised by the TV. The format type is the same for all these drives - NTFS. Is it just that the 4TB drive is too large? Or is it because of the USB3 cable?
Another thing - if I upgrade my TV to a latest-model one, am I likely to have the same problem? I can't find anything in TV specs that tells me what can be connected to the USB ports.
Any suggestions?

Hi there RGrahamSmith,

Most probably, your current TV has some sort of a maximum external storage capacity limitation. You can double check that in the manual, or contact the TV's Support on that.
The same goes for your other question. Your safest bet would be to contact the manufacturer's Support or take a look at the manual.

About the cable, I believe you can grab a USB 2.0 cable (the one of your other drives) and try it. I doubt that the issue is related to that though.

Many devices are limited to 2TB, either by partition size or cluster size. You might get around the partition size limitation by creating two 2-TB partitions on your HDD, but getting around the cluster size would be difficult. I'd recommend partitioning your disk as mentioned to see if that works for you. If not, you might have to limit yourself to a 2TB disk.

Hi. Thanks for the quick response. I have just tried the Seagate drive in a newish Sony tv which also just has USB2, and it works fine. I think I'll just have to wait till I replace my old tv and before I buy a new one I'll check the HDD works with it.
