Can't seem to enable the Sound/ Win 7
Win Troubleshooting does not fix it

Icon in the Taskbar Naturally has an X in the Speaker Icon-"No Audio Devices are Installed" when I check in the "Sounds" Tab

IN Bios it shows:"onboard AC'97 Audio"
By default it is "auto"... I've tried to "disable" it- then "enable" it- and "Auto" again.. NO change

I also see that there's a Cable which say:"SPKMIC" with 9 holes for pins (and one that is not open for a pin)- that isn't connected to the M.B. - Which comes from the Front Area of the Tower (and there are Ports for the Audio and Mic in the Front of the Tower) .
I did try one possible place to plug it into the MB-that it might go- though the pins in the MB, and holes in the Connector were Not an Exact match- it was able to plug in- but made no difference.
But, I would think that the Ports in the back of the MB should still work - even if that cable wasn't plugged in?!

I tried a Sound Card in the PCMI slots and it does work with that- but it would be nice to have it working with the onboard - and perhaps the front ports... which might work if the cable was plugged in.

Device Manager shows NO Audio or Multimedia- that I'm aware of - nor does "Scan for hardware changes" make any difference.

"Device Manager" If I click "Action >add legacy hardware> Search > Install Hardware Automatically>-Sound, Video and game controllers"...
I see nothing for AC Audio...
Under "Manufacturer" There is "Creative Tech. Ltd".. The only "Models" to select under that - just "Unsupported Game Port for Creative" to choose.. ( and I'm not sure these are even the right categories?) But I've tried that and it didn't help!

Device Manager>Action > Add Legacy Hardware>Manual Search= yields the same results I believe.

I tried to post "Pictures" - but I'm not sure how to- with this pop up window "Script Prompt, URL"?

Motherboard is:
ASRock
P4i65G
Prescott 800

That motherboard does not natively support any OS beyond Windows XP. I would recommend going to the chip manufacturer's site (RealTek) and downloading the driver direct from there: RealTek AC'97 Drive Page.

Try downloading and installing the Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file).

Edit: You will need to check the checkbox and click the Next button to get to the download page.

The cables from the case need to be connected if you want the front ports to work with the onboard sound.

However... those don't affect the actual functioning of the onboard sound, they just allow your front headphones jack, the case speaker & (in some cases) legacy CD drives to play sound through the onboard AC97.

Your problem sounds more like the onboard sound is for some reason not being recognized by Windows. Have you tried using the Support CD to install the drivers for it, or to at least see if the Support CD will detect the AC97?

Unfortunately the Win7/Vista Driver didn't work- It got about 1/3 of the way and wouldn't install. (I didn't see anything about installing the Driver Only- just the Setup Application)
I also tried to Run as Administrator/Using Recommended Settings, and Allow because it was Not Digitally Signed
I also tried the XP/etc. versions- it said it was installed but remained to be seen

This was a Tower that was Junked in the Garbage, so it didn't come with the Support CD...Maybe If I could find a Download for it?
I tend to agree.. Windows doesn't seem to recognize it.

I also tried "Driver Pack Solutions" no luck with that either

Possible other Troubleshooting?
I'm wondering if there might be a Bios Update:
Intel Pentium 4
Single Core 1
Bios Version / Date American Megatrends Inc. P.1.30, 08/09/2006
SMBIOS Version 2.3
Win 7 32bit

Looks like a 2 Pin BIOS Jumper
(Refresher Please) Only Done a 3 Pin Jumper ONCE> (which was not successful as it was not the problem)

Disconnect Power and Discharge for 30 SEC.?
Remove CMOS Battery
Cross two Pins with a Needle or Pin for 30 Seconds?
Wait 20 minutes and Plug in and Start?

Run Driver in Window XP Mode

(right click-> compatibility tab-> run this program in compatibility mode for: Window XP)

Clear CMOS
1) Disconnect power from AC wall socket.
2) Touch two pins together with a flat blade screwdriver for 30 seconds.
3) Plug power back in.
4) Enter BIOS on start up, Load Optimized Defaults from BIOS Exit menu. Load any custom settings you have. Save & Exit BIOS.
