I am looking for a router which I will use in a hotel environment. We have a 200MBit connection, so it shouldn't be a 100MBit router.

We want to connect several (~5) wifi access points to provide Internet to our guests. Every guest has to accept our terms of condition before he can use the Internet. Every connection should be saved within a logfile with date, time and the MAC addresses. Furthermore we want to limit the bandwidth of every device (for instance 3Mbit)

Any idea which hardware and software I need to achievethis?

You could easily do it with a mikrotik router. You can also make a custom PC with several ethernet cards depending on your needs and install RouterOS or PFsense. Any of those options will let you do what you intend. I used to work at a hotel too and had a virtual machine running RouterOS 6 connected to a load balancer with 5x100Mbps modems and used to have around 600 users at once, all logged in through the hotspot's web interface.

Thank you. I would like to buy a router. Building my own is a littlebit overkill. I think normally we will have 30-40 guest at once in our WiFi. Worst case = 100 users at once.

I want my user to accept my terms of conditions before they can connect to the internet. Can I do this with a MikroTik router? Or do I need something else?

You'll need to set it up yourself and might have to do some basic html stuff, but it's quite simple. Mikrotik routers use Router OS, so either the router or the PC option would do exactly the same. If you have another server you could easily run it as a virtual machine (which takes virtually no resources) and just add the network cards. But you can always buy the hardware and they work great.

As I remember, "Mikrotik router" does not record internet activities.

I believe you need to install "WFilter NG Firewall", which can record internet usage, bandwidth shaper, internet content filtering and VPN.

@nigelivey

I want a mikrotik router. I like them allready and I've read a couple of good things about them. I just need to know which one I should buy for my case.

It just depends if you want to purchase a router or save yourself the £££££££££.

Id suggest using a proper WiFi solution, ubiquti have a good setup and management interface, but not knowing anything about the size of the hotel or how many users will be connecting. If you want multiple ssid's or not more detail is needed!

Stated above:

Regarding flash, I can't tell for sure as I haven't used their hardware on high demand situations, only the OS as a virtual machine. I'd look for reviews regarding that. As for the license, I'd suggest to get the highest you can if the company is paying for it. It's really nothing compared to what a cisco router would cost and it does a lot more. Even if you are only using 100 users max right now, you can always use it for other stuff.

So I read a view reviews. The small routerboard hex for 60dollar can handle 100 connections without problemes. Yesterday we ordered one of them, I will report how it is going with the small thing.

What accesspoints would you recommend? And how to configure them?
I can not connect all of them with ethernet. Some of them should work as a "repeater". What is the best approach. Give all of them the same SSID and password?
