VoIP phone on Residential Modem issue

The phone is able to register and make calls out but... I have issues taking callers off of hold and get dead air when answering calls at times. The phone is connected to an AT&T Uverse Modem. Heres what Ive tried....

1) put Ip address of phone into DMZ which actually caused it to stop registering.

2) I port forwarded UDP 5060 & 5061 (seperately) even changed the local SIP port on phone to 5061 when I tried forwarding to that. (default is 5060)

3) Replaced phone with brand new phone and same identical problems came back

I could not find a way to change the overall firewall security level nor did I see a status. Any Help is appreciated

just turn the firewall off on the router its not like it would do much have software for the PC anyway bitdefender or somthing
