Is My Temp Really This Cool?

I have a new setup I just built using the following:

- Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 ATX case
- AMD FX-8370 4.0 GHz (not overclocked)
- Corsair Hydro Series H100i V2 (CPU liquid cooler)
- G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
- ASRock ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
- GeForce 560ti

The last 2 items on that list were carryovers from my old build. With the liquid cooler, I'm getting idle temps at around 35 C and at load it's about 45-50 C. My brain is telling me that's great, but my gut doesn't trust what I see. I'm using the Corsair Link and the BIOS to tell me the temp. Thoughts? Should I trust this?

Yeah, I had the same cpu with the same cooler. The lower temps might not be as accurate as my 8350 reported it was 12c at one point. The censors are not the best

Thanks. Worth a try. I've never used liquid cooling before, as I've always been nervous about it. For some very strange reason, the thought of mixing liquid with electronics doesn't seem like a good idea...not sure why.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right, at all.

Ha yeah I was the same and have read about pumps bursting and destroying entire ystems but with these closed loop coolers I dont think there's much risk and they are really very effective. Try Prime95 if you really want to test it's power and let us know how high you go!

Idle temps are usually less accurate but still fairly reliable as long as everything is installed correctly...

FX processors aren't good at reading low temps, I have also gotten impossible temp readings showing lower than ambient. They seem to get more accurate at higher temps I would sayabout 40c+. Those temps are what I would expect, FX processors don't run that hot to begin with and you have a high end AIO water cooler. Plenty of room for a hefty overclock, which in my opinion you should certainly be doing if you spent the money for a cooler like that.

I used to want to overclock, but realized many years ago that I wasn't seeing enough benefit to warrant the risk. Times have changed where overclocking is way less of a risky affair, but I'm still gunshy and don't have a strong need for it. It's nice to have the option, but with all of the 3D modeling, animation and some app intensive work I do, I'm fine with where I'm at now. The claim AMD makes is that I can overlcock this 8-core beast to 5Ghz, but I'm not even seeing the need. The cooling was my major concern.

Well you have a bit overdone it a bit in the cooling department if you're not overcloking. I'm using a 35 dollar hyper 212 evo and I can keep my temps under 55c when gaming at 4.6ghz and its been at that clock for about 4 years now. From my experience these FX processors are not delicate when it comes to overclocking and your motherboard is also perfectly suited for it.

I'm not trying to push you into something you don't want to do, im just saying your hardware can handle a decent overclock and then some as long as you have a decent power supply as well.

Well I used Prime95 and took it up to past 47 C and stopped it because I didn't want to fry my chip. That's about 120 F.

I hear you. I have a 750W PSU, so I'm good on that department. It used to be a 1000W Ultra PSU, but it sacrificed itself after a bad thunderstorm to save the rest of my build and they replaced it with the later model, which happened to be only 750W. I was just happy that I didn't have to buy a new one.
