Quad channel ram vs dual channel ram?

I'm at a crossroads between x99 and z170, Does Quad channel ram really make a big difference, and if it does is it noticeable at all in speed?

If you're running an application that can take advantage of it yes. However gaming wise no. X99 is best for large multicore workloads, such as gaming and heavy HD streaming while running other stuff too.

In raw gaming performance Z170 and a Skylake processor will actually do it faster.
