Dell can't help me...

Exhausted searches coming up empty.

I just bought a new optiplex 7040 .

I need a min 400watt power supply to power the level of video card I require.

I would have never gotten a SFF computer if I'd known it is so difficult to find quality parts for.

I mY have to pull the power supply and see if I can visually match it up but I prefer to buy from a place that knows it will go right in.

Looking for someone not guessing but knows the solution... I'll fight the video card battle next.... Most high end SFF video cards require two slots and I only have two slots and one is taken up by my sound card.

Do I just give up?

look up SFX power supplies, if you are lucky Dell is using that size standard. PSU Size chart, http://www.evercase.co.uk/PowerSupplyMeasurement.htm

If all you have is one slot all you can really use are Nvidia GT series cards, which are not new. Also that case size (SFF not mid size) has a severe height restriction so you'd have use a low profile card anyways so you are again restricted to the GT series. So the best you can use is a GT 730.

Saw that Dell optiplex 7040 cost around 600 to 800 Euros without a proper Graphic card. Wouldn´t you prefer to do a smart move and return this Supermarket overpriced machine, and assemble a proper one with this money.

The problem with supermarket pcs: The case is non standard, meaning PSU won´t fit in properlly, cooling is normally weak and loud. It´s often overpriced and obsolete.

The case is on a non standard format, I gues most of the PSU won´t fit on it without drilling some holes on the back of the case. It will on top of that add Heat.
