hello,
I have recently purchased a msi 1070 graphics card, i have 8 gb ddr3 ram, z97-k asus, i5 4690k 3.5ghz. The issue is that i'm not getting the performance i'm supposed to get. I previously had gtx 970 which was also experiencing difficulties after i reapplied the thermal paste mx-2. Thinking back the whole issue with my pc started after reapplying the thermal paste.

have you checked if your results are close/matching the benchmarks (from a good source)? what game are you playing and at what resolution?
you might find you are trying too many highly demanding graphics that even a Titan would struggle with... e.g. GTA V can cause a drop in FPS for my 1070 because some advanced graphics and effects like "long shadows" are too much for it, switching those off you can see the FPS triple in speed.

also in regards to the thermal paste, did you over apply/spread it? Can you see if you have any leakage of the paste on the MoBo?

I am kinda having the same problem. But i have the i5 4460 instead. In my scenario, it could be a CPU bottleneck, but I doubt if that is the case in your situation. Sometimes I just think we all expect a little bit too much from it. But it is really a beast of a card!

Also, as @mozzio said, GTA is a game that is really really heavy. Even a Titan X would struggle with it.

But can you tell us more about what games you play? And which resolution you play with? And what power supply do you have?
