1) Have Windows 2000 installed on old Dell Latitude CP laptop.
2) Have installed a Linksys 10/100 + 56K Modem PC card and connect it via Ethernet cable to my router (D-Link DI-614+) on LAN port #2.
Light on router shows active.
3) When I click on Local Area Connection icon on taskbar it shows Status: Connected at a speed of 100.0 Mbps and device manager indicates card is working.
4) Pinging "127.0.0.1" shows 4 sent and 4 received.
5) IPConfig /all shows:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Host Name: xyz
Primary DNS Suffix:
IP Routing Enabled: No
WNS Proxy Enabled: No

Connection Specific DNS Suffix
Description: Linksys 10/100 + 56K PC card (PCMLM56) (LAN)
Physical Address: 00-04-5A-A4-36-4F
DHCP Enabled Yes
Auto Config IP Address: 169.254-52.208
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: {blank}
DNS Servers: {blank}

Any idea what is wrong and where I go from here?

under adaptor setting make sure the box is check for the adaptor to auto set an ip info. if it uses a fixed ip it has to be on the same ip number as the router. (192.168.1.1). using 192.168.1.10 if it needs to be fixed should work. akso run dos commands to clear and reset ip info.

ss202sl:
I can ping and access the router from the 1st computer (LAN port 1) but on (Lan port 2) host unreachable.
smorizio:
assume you refer to "under adaptor settings" being the router. It is set to auto.
Can you id DOS commands to clear and reset please?

Ran ipconfig /release
"All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and can not be released"

Ran ipconfig /renew
Got error: Local Area Connection 3: DHCP Server unreachable.

=========================
Possible. Willl have to get another cable and try it. However, having the same issue trying to access this router (DI-614+) using wireless from Windows 2000. Even tried doing a modem reset (most common solution) and still no go. So maybe some setting in Windows 2000 I need to toggle / reset?

Thank you all for input to date.

Not trying manage from wireless. Just trying to connect a laptop with Windows 2000 to my router either via cable (LAN Port #2) or via wireless.
