custom built computer is slow

Hey Folks,
I recently built a custom computer (specs below), and it isn't running games as it should be. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to this, but I've made sure all the proper drivers are installed, and all the components are correctly connected. Any ideas on what I should do?

build of computer
Processor: i5 4690
RAM: 16GB
PSU: 600w
MoBo: Gigabyte Z97-D3H
Graphics Card: GTX 970
SSD: samsung 250GB
Hard drive: 1TB

updated the intel chipset drivers and nvidia gpu drivers..make sure the mb bios is up to date. also run malware and hitman pro scan make sure the pc not infected. run samsung ssd tools make sure on the ssd there room for the ssd to clean and do garbage clean up. if it too full a ssd will slow down. run ccleaner to clean up old windows files. also use windows disk tools...remove old windows update and system files.
