Hey TH,

A little about my issue first. When scrolling through a page with videos, most notably on Facebook where they auto-play, my screen will flicker for a few frames to black, and then return to normal with the video playing. My computer also feels sluggish for a few moments after returning. It is extremely annoying.

I'm using a computer with GTX 970, i5 2500k, 8GB RAM 1333mhz (nothing is overclocked), and Windows 10 on an SSD. Monitor is an HP Pavilion 23cw.

I've tried DDU, and I've tried disabling f.lux. I honestly have no idea where the problem is coming from.

Your advice is appreciated. If you need me to clarify anything, I will!

First off, I wasn't the one who needed help in the first place.
Secondly, it's unlikely that the VRAM in a very modern GTX 970 would choke on an online video of any sort, on an old card, sure, but it's too modern to have that issue. The only way I could see the VRAM choking is if he had other GPU taxing tasks in the background, which is unlikely.
Thirdly, I apologize if I seemed to have an attitude, it was not my original intention, I was merely pointing out that your suggestion did not seem likely to be the source of the problem and provided supporting details, and if you're referring to the bold words, bold is used to place emphases or importance on a word, and is not always in relation to the tone in which something is written. Seems unlikely!

Regardless, bottlenecking isn't actually the issue I asked about. There is a graphical issue when video begins playing, my entire screen flickers to black for a few frames.

Thanks for the response anyways :)

Multipack, I believe you are incorrect, a bottleneck should only affect gaming, or an application that puts a large strain on the GPU, which, a video online, unless it's 4K, will not. The link you provided does not have any mentioning of screen flashing nor playing videos. A 3.7 GHz CPU should have absolutely no issues playing an online video, something else is causing the flashing, though I am not aware what it could be unless it is driver related. We need someone more knowledgeable. And I still doubt the i5 is bottlenecking the GPU much, if at all.

Videos primarily use the CPU for decoding, though can use hardware acceleration and the GPU will help the CPU decode the video, but the CPU is doing most of the work, if the CPU was having issues, the video would lag, this is a different issue from what Trewyy is describing.

Update: The CPU is NOT bottlenecking the GPU, this is a separate issue. Source: link

Trewyy, some additional details could be helpful, do you recall which browser you were using during this issue, and if other websites beside Facebook are affected? You may try a different web browser as well to rule that out. Could be a driver issue, flash, or even the browser. If it occurs on different browsers than flash or drivers are more likely. Are you aware if you have Adobe Flash installed on your system?

Update:
Trewyy, if you happened to be using Microsoft Edge, it sounds like an issue with the browser. If this is the case, I would recommend using a third-party browser such as Google Chrome, or FireFox.
