Hi, I have a pc build with the important parts being fx-8350@4.8ghz, h100i, 16gbs of ram, and gtx 970. I game at 1440p@60hz. I play Witcher 3, Assassins Creed Syndicate, Rust, Ark Survival, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Need for Speed 2015, and the Metro Redux games.

The upgrade decision is to go intel and buy a 6600k and OC as far as it is safe/MP/Ram or replace the 970 with a 1070. The upgrade is more so for Witcher 3 than any of the other games. So i would prefer for the upgrade to be based on the biggest performance increase in Witcher 3.

I am getting about 45fps on ultra preset, hair works off, foliage distance low, character density high, AA off. I have several mods for LOD and High Quality character faces.

Please ask any question you need to so i can help you help me.

So basically my question is should i upgrade to an i5 6600k cpu/MB/Ram or upgrade to a gtx 1070?

I have read several places that Fx Cpus will bottleneck a gtx 1070, but then several places saying it does not. My understanding is that a bottleneck is when the cpu is limiting the gpu percent usage. I believe that upgrading to the i5 with a higher instructions per clock would be an upgrade, but would it give a better performance upgrade over a gtx 1070?

The 8350 is the best processor that you are having. The GTX 1060 would definitely bottleneck but mostly games are processor based. The games would run fine its just that you would get to take full advantage of the GPU.
For Witcher 3 I would get my GPU upgraded.

There is a pretty good chance that upgrading to a 1070 would not yield any better results at all.

I say make the jump to Intel. i5 + motherboard + DDR4 RAM now.

Then sell your FX, motherboard, DDR3, and GTX970 and use that money towards a 1070
