Is my GPU defective? (EVGA SC 1060 6GB)

So I recently upgraded my GPU from a 760 to a EVGA 1060. For a while the card seemed to work fine but when ever I play chivalry my DVI-D connected display goes black and my GPUs fan spins at 100%. Resetting the PC is the only way to fix it it seems. Is this a driver issue? Or is my card defective? I have played the witcher 3 and tomb raider extensively with no issues and temperatures seem fine. Highest 78C for the GPU.

Solution
I did some digging on google and the steam forums, it seems that drivers have been dodgy all across the board for windows 10. Different people with the same graphics card on the same driver version are experiencing different levels of broken-ness with the game.

Usually, when I see my screen go black and the fans keep spinning, it means that I've either overheated, exceeded the capabilities of my VRM's, or have an unstable overclock. 78C on an aftermarket cooler 1060 is a bit high, although it's still well within the "safe zone". Are you overclocking?

If your card works with other games with no issues, no, your card is not defective. If it was defective, it wouldn't work all the time.

For now, try running Guru DDU and reinstalling the latest drivers. What are the temps on your other core components (and what are they)?

Ok my specs are as follows.
Core I5 4570 Stock cooler (Temps range from 30-40 Idle to 65-70 under load.)
MOBO: MSI H81m-E33
Lepa 500w psu Not certified (Though I ran a gtx 760 with a 170w power requirment just fine, the new card takes 120w)
Connection is a DVi-D to a 144hz monitor

Temps.
I ran FurMark and max temp was 77C No other issues during this test.

For chivalry and the witcher 3 on high settings. 65-68 Max temp.

I tried lowering the settings in Chivalry and still got the black screen.

Another thing I tried to rule out is an OC issue. (Since my card comes stock OC'ed) I set my gpu to debug mode, power management to optimal and pre rendered frames to 3 in nividias control panel.

Still had the same issue with chivs settings on low paired with those settings in Nividia control panel.

Right now im going to try reinstalling Chivalry and then the Driver to see if that fixes it. If not I don't know what else to do besides RMA it. If you know anyway to check if my GPU is using too much power or getting overheated let me know.

77C under furmark loads is rather impressive, so you don't seem to have GPU cooling issues. A stock OC becoming unstable is usually a power supply problem.

If I'm looking at the right LEPA 500W power supply, it isn't a great unit, but at least on paper, it has enough power to keep your system alive.

An i5 4570 reaching 70C under load is a bit high, but it's a stock cooler, so that's acceptable.

Does it only crash in chivalry, or does it do that in the witcher also?

Just Chivalry it seems. I even Streamed Rise of the tomb raider on my steam link with no issues.

So as far as I can tell the problem is embedded in one of the following. Embedded as in deep within the system that I probably can't fix alone.
Chivarly
The GPU
Or the Nividia driver

I tried reinstalling both Chiv and my Driver. I am starting to think if there is a problem with my card and chivalry is some how the only game to cause an issue. My PSU could be the problem but I don't anyway to test that. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and get a new PSU since I was planning to anyways.

The main thing is. If it was a PSU problem, My computer would have shut off right? I'm just getting a black screen and the computer is still on. I even hear sound for a few seconds after a black screen.

If it were a PSU problem, it would power down immediately, or smoke would come out.

This is either GPU or driver. I still think you should try using DDU to clear all graphics drivers, and then reinstalling the latest one, just to make sure there isn't some conflict and/or corruption. Plain old reinstalling just adds more complexity to a potential problem. It's better to just wipe the slate and be absolutely sure.

If that doesn't fix it, the fault is probably within Chivalry itself. I wonder if there's config files you have to tweak to get it to run properly.

Thin is I did use DDU when I first installed my GPU. I reinstalled the driver since then as well as chivalry. Its either the card or the driver +chivalry then. I really have no deeper level troubleshooting methods for the GPU so thats what I need to be certain.

I have 6GB of VRM which is 4 GB more than my 760, which worked fine. The card also only takes 120W and my old card took 170w. 78-80C is the highest I got with my GPU(Furmark tests and such) My CPU is around 65-69 with a stock cooler. The card comes overclocked but I tried putting my GPU in Debug mode and the same issue happens. Thank you for your research Im very appreciative of it. Im also using windows 8.1 and I have updates disabled, though 8.1 does some sort of updating in the background I cant turn off. Yeah it might be Chivarly. I was able top play Overwatch for hours with no similar issue.

I have the 3gb SC single fan model and the same thing happened to me, it was fine for the first 3 days. Playing or even on youtube after a bit the screen would go black and the only way was to restart the pc. After another day my pc would just go into a reboot cycle after every six seconds and I could no longer get it to post.

I checked the psu and that was fine (I have a seasonic x-series 850 plus gold). I even reset the bios and also took the cmos battery out overnight. Still the same problem but after swapping back to my 570's in SLI the PC booted fine and everything was good. Evga accepted my RMA and have sent me another 1060sc. So you should probably return to your store of purchase for replacement.

As regards to the factory OC your card should boost higher than the advertised OC anyway. My first card would auto boost to over 2.1Ghz with a max of 50% fan for 67C heat getting the OC card just gets you a better binned GPU and with my card a fat heatsink and copper heat pipes.

Did your new card fix the problem?

I got a new RMA and it worked fine. The kicker is someone actually mucked up at the factory and put the basic black radial heatsink from the base 1060 onto a Superclocked card. So evga has pre-paid a courier for me to send this back too which I have done so once again am without a 1060.

I have had the worst luck what with the heatsink and also when I sent my first card back they had a typhoon in Taiwan and evga was closed for days.

If you have not done so try using Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode then reinstall the latest drivers on reboot. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

In safe mode pick the option to clean and shutdown. Then start the pc again it will be like the first time you installed your first gfx card on bootup.
