I am getting this issue with more amd more games as time goes on. Doom (2016) Bioshock 2 remaster and now Bombshell are persisteltly and frequently crashing with "<GAMENAMEHERE> has stopped working"

I go into event viewer and all the crashes are access violation errors.

I cleaned my registery with Ccleaner
run a memtest and passed on both passes
Ran full scans with MalwareBytes Premium and Windows defender (with latest updates and defs)
I made sure I took ownership of all files and granting myself full access in security settings
removed DEP completely via elevated command script

I still get the crashes and they are getting more frequent and effecting more games

Please tell me there is something I can do other than format my SSD and do a clean install of windows

I can't do a repair install as no matter how much space I clear I am always told I don't have enough free space to do a repair install

so a reinstall of windows means a wiped boot drive, all apps and games needing to be reinstalled and set up and trying to negotiate the broken Windows update system that defies reason.

Please assist!

Hello!

You could give this a go:

1) Go to the control panel
2) Go to system and security > System
3) Click on "Advanced System Settings"
4) Go to the "Advanced" tab
5) Click on Settings under the performance section
6) Go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab
7) Click on the second option called "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"
8) Click "Add" to add an exe that you are having problems with
9) Launch an exe that has be put in the box and hopefully it won't crash.

I hope this helps :)

I disabled DEP completely with a script in elevated command prompt as dep was blocking some 64bit games and I could not add 64 bit executables to the exceptions list. So when I go into the DEP screen it is greyed out.

I also reverted Internet explorer back to 8 and then disabled it altogether in "Turn windows features on and off"

Ah yes I see that now in your original post, sorry about that, what if you try to update your drivers for your motherboard, GPU and everything in your system?

Although I'm guessing they are all up to date, we'll have to see what other people say because I had a similar problem with fallout 3 and fallout new vegas and I now have both games on Xbox One anyway because I got so frustrated I just bought the games again :D

Fallout 3 and NV are not compatible with 64bit OS. I could not play those games since I had 32bit Windows XP

even removing Internet explorer and going into MSConfig and disabling all no necisarry startup and services did not stop the crashes, they are getting more frequent and it's effecting more games as time.

I just hope these crashes don't extend to PhotoShop and Filter Forge. I am working on a 2K UltraHD texture pack for Doom and if those programs crash I will be forced to format my SSD and perform a clean install. :'(

I honestly don't know what's happening here...

It's annoying because "Access Violation" implies that the programs all want to do something but for some unknown reason, Windows crashes the program and says that it can't do whatever that application was trying to do because of some sort of block....

How about you turn your AV and Firewall off completely, that might remove a block of some kind.

How about right clicking on exe's and selecting run as administrator?

I can't figure out what's stopping them from communicating...

There's this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/get-an-access-violation-error-when-playing-games/02b1653b-acea-4859-9afc-d184691aafd8?auth=1

Which points to the thing I said about the AV...

Give that a shot and if it works then I recommend installing Avast! Anti-virus which is what I use and I haven't had this weird thing happen to me...yet :D

I need to find an adequate alternative for AV first.

Something that is free, does not have issues detecting false-positives (Like Avast), and above all does not persistently nag me with intrusive pop-up ads about buying the premium edition (Yes AVG I am talking about YOU!).

I'd be happy to pay for an AV if it was a pay once and once only and not paying every single bloody year, for life!

At this stage we are just trying to solve the issue temporarily so we can understand what we need to do to permanently solve it.

Disabling your anti-virus for now would be a good trouble shooting step, and if it turns out that disabling your anti-virus does fix your issue, then we can start looking for alternative AV :)
