My previous GPU recently died and i'm in need of a replacement. After doing some research I concluded a 1060 would be appropriate for maxxing out most games @ 1080p 60fps fairly consistently. The price of a 6GB 1060 is around £250 - £260, however I recently saw a ASUS STRYX GTX 970 for £175. I was wondering if the extra £80 - £90 was worth it at all. Cheers. Rest of specs.

I guess it depends on your games and your budget. I recently bought a 970 for my son. It gets 60 FPS or more for most of the games he play (on a 60Hz, 1080 screen). The 1060 is probably better in some games, but if you would be happy with the performance of the 970 for a couple of years, you could put down the money you save towards the 1160 when that is launched...Or buy a handful of games for the money you save. £175 sounds like a good price for a 970.

Get the 970, unless you plan on playing newer games at Max Settings. Or playing VR.

Alright, cheers for replies, I do have a 144 Hz monitor but I only see it being helpful on games like CS, RL which aren't hard to pull 144+ fps on anyway.

I am in exactly the same situation, and found exactly the same 970 deal. I should know by the end of the week how will it handles my 144hz Benq with CS:GO
