I have a transcend 500gb storejet and it's been working well for a while even though the cable was basically broken until the cable connector broke. I realized it had a weird sound the last time when i used it, like it was struggling to spin. So I got a new cable yesterday and plugged it in my laptop and didn't work and then also tried it on the other laptop but got the same results. When I plug it then led light is on then it turns and it's not spinning and this means my laptop won't recognise it. Please Help!! I have important things in my external.

Hey there, Cherry101.

It's really possible that the unusual sounds you've heard might have been caused by a faulty drive. In cases like this one, you should backup as soon as possible, just to be on the safe side.
Now you have a few options. The first one is to go for a professional solution, such as a data recovery company. This is the most reliable data recovery method and what I'd recommend.
Another option would be to take the drive out of its original enclosure (which is not really recommended) hoping that it would work when you connect it internally, via a standard SATA connection. Note that this is not recommended for a reason (more like a few reasons): this will void the warranty of the HDD; you could damage the drive while...
Hey there, Cherry101.

It's really possible that the unusual sounds you've heard might have been caused by a faulty drive. In cases like this one, you should backup as soon as possible, just to be on the safe side.

Another option would be to take the drive out of its original enclosure (which is not really recommended) hoping that it would work when you connect it internally, via a standard SATA connection. Note that this is not recommended for a reason (more like a few reasons): this will void the warranty of the HDD; you could damage the drive while removing its enclosure; if the HDD has hardware encryption, your data might not be accessible without the original enclosure; if the drive has a proprietary connector, you won't be able to connect it internally.
And the last one is to give up on your files and RMA the drive if it's under warranty.

Hope that helps.
