So the service is running but the updates give the error : windows update cannot currently check for updates windows

I have stopped/started the service in services and elevated cmd prompt,
run the update readiness tool, repair tool and the fix it tool
run sfc /scannow (just cuz)
restarted a bunch
tried to restore the box but this also fails
tried starting up in selective and safe modes

Any ideas why the service shows to be running but updates wont go?

Solution

I solved the issue by running Driver Pack Solution driver updater. I saw some drivers were out of date and so on a whim ran the updater and after i restarted it asked if i wanted to install updates. Something that DPS installed or uninstalled seems to have corrected the issue. Praise the LORD!

that doesnt fix my problem. i need the service to work as intended as this box belongs to an old man who has little understanding of these things. is there a fix for the error?

sorry, my response read rude. not my intention. I guess what i take away from the solution you are offering is this, that i manually update the software but does this somehow correct windows error in that it will, after the manual updates, allow the auto updates to start up again?

i tried that as well. sorry, forgot to list that. no dice.

last updates worked fine checked - informed me - downloaded and installed ? the last time it was like pulling teeth ?? just a point to ponder is as long as this been going on [win-10 release] notice how Microsoft not lifted a figure to resolve it ?? hmmmm..... I guess too busy data collecting and worrying about cortana and why your not using there great 10 [lol] ?

Yes, exactly.
That's standard procedure after fresh install of windows 7 and also in situations when windows 7 has not been updated for a long time (~10 months).
