Do I need better case cooling? My SSD and HDD take ages to cool down after playing because of the bad VRAM cooling.

I know that Asus isn't the best for VRAM cooling on AMD graphics cards, yet I didn't know when I had bought my OC'd R9 290X with DirectCU II cooling.

Nowadays when I play for shorter whiles (15-20mins, DX12 game), the VRAM's temp goes up to 85-88°C (the diode stays at up to 80°C), which might not be such a big problem, as it cools down within 2-3 mins to 45°C, later to 40°C. But the fact that my SSD and HDD stay around 46-48°C, and they take ages to go back under 40°C is worrying me. I doubt that it does much good for the SSD to stay above 45°C for extended periods of time.

My question is, would the improved case cooling help rectify this situation? I got a Gigabyte GZ-X7 case, with the PSU in the top corner and only 2 basic fans (front & back) that came with the case. Should I try getting stronger fans and/or get a case with better airflow/better fan possibilities?

Any suggestions are appreciated, and thanks for the replies.

Here's my 2yo setup:
Asus H97-Plus
i5-4690 (+CM 212 Hyper EVO)
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
Asus R9 290X DC2 OC
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
WD 1TB Black
FSP Raider 650W

Backblaze has some interesting stats on HDD cooling: http://www.serverwatch.com/hreviews/article.php/3842071/5-Simple-Changes-to-Reduce-Hard-Drive-Failures.htm

In a nutshell, 45 degrees isn't going to kill your hard drives/SSDs.

There's plenty of nicely priced cases out there, like:

http://www.phanteks.com/Eclipse-P400.html
https://www.nzxt.com/products/phantom-410-white
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/specalpha

If you're really on a budget I find this is a decent case: (has dust filters, sadly no top-mounted fans)
https://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/neos/

A new case will have much more airflow. (top fans are great) and drive bays in front of 2x front fans helps...

In terms of casing. Yes. that Is a pretty lame case I'll give you that.

Solution
Your case is not the best for cooling.
The hot component is the R9-290X.
What to do?

A no cost solution would be to remove the side cover.

A low cost solution would be to replace the front intake fan with a much higher rpm version.
That will increase the cooling air available for the graphics card.
Perhaps something like 2400 rpm.
But, that will increase noise.

Lastly, you could find a better case with two 120 or 140mm front intake fans.
