Hi,

Recently fitted a new MB as the old one had water damage. The MB is discontinued but found one in China on EBay.

Worked fined for a few weeks now a intermittent issue where 4 of the HDs are not detected. The one HD that is detected happens to be the newest. But they all (4) disappear from the BIOS not a mixture.

To fix this i can lightly touch the SATA cables when off, then when i reboot all 4 previously missing HDs are there.

Seems impossible to be cables and the HDs as the issue is simultaneous. Or is it possible one problem effects the MB to not see 4 drives?

Any help appreciated.

Solution
It's great you've sorted this out.
I think it's less likely to be OS related. It could be power related. You took three mechanical drives drives out of the system, which require much more power than the SSD.

Cheers,

Hi there Jason_182,

Well, I believe there could be something wrong with the cables as well.
You can use the cables (both SATA and power ones) of the drive that is working just fine. See if swapping the ports would help as well.

Updating the MOBO's drivers will not hurt.

Let us know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Thanks for the replies. I know this is a tangent but For now i bought a SSD 240gb for the OS as I've wanted one for a while. I switched out the reliable SATA position for this SS drive and did a clean install of W10. Got rid of two older 160gb laptop drives i had in there.

So now have four drives instead of 5 (240GB SSD, 1TB, 2 X 500GB) and has rebooted a dozen times without the problem occurring.

Hoping the issue is gone for good
