I have an old XP SP3 OS, that use to go surprisingly well, it has started to run the CPU at 50%, and wont allow me to install Malwarebytes.
I've removed the drives and had them scanned - with a few malware was found - nothing much else. Put them back into the PC (Athlon XP 2400+) and it is still basically the same.
Any suggestions?

I just replaced the drive, I think it was faulty. Then a full re-install with Windows XP on a new hard drive - lol.
And now it runs as expected.

Yes, but one can't live in Safe Mode.
It worked better in SM but I couldn't solve or identify the problem within this environment.
Malwarebytes did manage to complete a Threat scan...in 10 hours.
