My apologize. I did not know where to post this. It is about a motherboard so I put it here.

So this is happening with me and Newegg right now. The Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 they sent me more than likely has a short in it. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3188784/system-randomly-locks.html this thread will fill you in on the details. Basically I test everything else but the MOBO (didn't have another MOBO to swap out and test with) so it must be that.

Returned the MOBO to Newegg and now they are shipping it back to me due to the serial # sticker not being on the MOBO itself. My question is can they do that? I've seen some folks say that it's illegal to refuse a return or replace the item or whatever based off of serial sticker/decal removal. I'm starting my research here as Tom's Hardware has a good community of people. Please and thank you.

Well you do need to include a valid serial number for any sort of RMA, how else can they check the validity of the warranty?
The serial number is also listed on your box if you still have that.

My question is why newegg? Why didnt you send it to asus for the RMA?

My first build. That must answer a lot. I honestly didn't see any sort of serial # on the mobo. There is one on the box that is still there along with the UPC. All my other transactions as a consumer say to return item to retailer. This has been a learning experience. Trust me if I knew this whole thing could have turned into the 3-4 ordeal that this is going to be (on week 3 now) I would have made different decisions. I now know to return computer components directly to the manufacturer. Asus is happy to help me out but they do want to wait till I get the busted one back from Newegg to run tests. Tests that I've already run per the link in my last post. The person I spoke to was civil and helpful but didn't seem to understand that POSTing and booting don't really mean anything. They mentioned something in the BIOS that might help.

Now that I've read way more material than I thought I'd have to I understand that this is a thing that happens sometimes. It sucks but what can you do. Feel kind of silly posting about it in hindsight. Thanks so much for replying.
