Hello. Today was the day I finally decided to install CPU cooler on my old i5 2500k. The problem occoured when I had to move one Ram from 1st to 2nd slot, so I had enough space to install CPU cooler. When I did that I (clumsy me) broke clip-lever that holds RAM in place. My motherboard is Asus P6P67 evo where I have 2 black and 2 blue slots for dual channel (1-2-1-2) The problem is I can't use second slot as well because I broke clip holder as well few years ago when I was building my rig. This motherboard has 1 side clip mounting so it clips only from one side.

The problem is RAM in one of these broken clips doesn't work, so I can use RAM only on 3rd and 4th slots (no dual channel). I am just wondering why don't they work since slot holds it in place itself really good and they are pushed in enough. These clips are just normal plastic clips so I don't think they have any sensors in them. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

Thanks!

2 things.

1 - memory slot clips are close to connections. while it looks like there is no damage visually, you may have bent or damaged connectors, inadvertently.
2 - While pushed in very well, the clips do lock it down centered as well as solidly in place. A micron off will misalign the pins.

Also be wary that if you do get it to work, heat generated by the stick can also cause movement enough to throw the sticks out of alignment.
