I have recently invested into the standard EVGA GTX 1060 6gb and an i5 6500 for my first PC build and when I test it out in games such as Battlefield 4 or CS:GO it gets nowhere as many frames as I see in the benchmarks. In Battlefield 4 at low settings, I will get an average of 100-120 fps and maybe a max of around 150 fps. In CS:GO the fps at low settings are very similar to BF4. I have tried unparking the cores in my CPU but it hasn't made all that much of a difference to the performance I'm getting. Any help on how I can get a normal frame rate on my PC would be much appreciated. Thanks

My PC:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
CPU Cooler: Stock Intel 6500 Cooler
Motherboard: Asus H170-PRO
Memory: Kingston ValueRam 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Hard Drive: WD 250GB (old)
SSD: Samsung 750 Evo 250
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING Video Card (06G-P4-6161-KR)
PSU: 650w Cooler Master Non-Modular

Try opening up GPU-Z and checking the clocks. Compare them to the advertised clocks and if they're significantly lower, check the PerfCap Reason.

Hope that helps

Well I looked at the PerfCap Reason and it says It's limited by GPU Utilisation. Not really sure what that means. The GPU Clock looks normal at 1506 MHz but the memory Clock says its at 2002 MHz when on the EVGA website it says it should be at 8008 which is like four times less. Any help for where to go from here would be appreciated. Thanks

I accidentally picked this one as the solution before I read it

Wait do you mean below 80 degrees while I'm in game

Ok I'll do that, I just tried battlefield 4 and it was at about 71-76 degrees

Ok, so I've been doing the stress Test at 1080p and 8X MSAA and it has reached 82 degrees and is staying around there

I don't think I use MSAA in my games, I just put the graphics preset to low

I tried putting the fan Speed higher and it got loud and the temperatures went down to 77 degrees. Also, in GPU-Z the PerfCap reason says its limited by GPU Utilisation, I'm not really sure what that means

I'm not sure but I'll test it on battlefield. Are you saying it will get more fps than on low?

Ok, so on high on bf4 it gets around 70-110fps

Oh ok, do you think I should overlock it? It goes below 80 when i turn the fan On high

Not sure about the memory clock, but I know there are several different memory clocks which are multiples of each other so that would probably explain that... If your cap is Util it probably just means that you're downclocking because you're achieving above 60FPS and it doesn't want to pull all its guns out for something that's too small a job. Might help if you use EVGA PrecisionX's kboost function. Gonna be honest that was my only shot, I'm out of my depth now

Question from Cosmic4Testing : "GTX 1060 Getting Low Fps in Games"

Yeah I've done the graphics drivers and tried it out in other games but the only thing that I haven't done is update the bios

no it doesn't dip below 40 fps

How do I update the bios?

Do you have any more advice for getting more fps? Maybe in csgo because that's way lower than it should be

First of all your card is already running pretty toasty I would not recommend overclocking it. For reference, my GTX 660 ti at idle sits at 26 celcius and stays below 70 under load. Go easy on your new card and stop stress testing for long periods of time.

Secondly, your CS:GO framerate is below what it should be indeed. I would suggest anyone that tells you that a 1060 is not really that powerful to go check out some benchmarks. It's not SLI Titan X, we all understand but for 1080p in CS:GO while everything is maxed out, it should give at least over 200 consistantly since the CPU is decent as well. For reference again, I am getting around 150 across the board while having everything maxed out with a GTX 660 Ti and a Phenom 2.

My first suggestion is a pretty stupid one. You plugged your monitor to your GPU, not your motherboard, right? Your i5 has integrated graphics, if you plugged it to the board instead of your GPU, you will not use your card. Just make sure. (You can also disable onboard graphics from the BIOS. There are tons of threads about it in this forum)

The first step to identify the problem is to benchmark your card. Download Unigine Heaven or Valley, set it up and benchmark your card at maximum possible settings. When it finishes and you get a score, compare it with user results who have the same card as you, then we can determine if there is anything wrong with it.

I had a look but it didn't give me an option to select the preferred graphics processor for csgo. Do you know any other way I could do this?
