i have an 3rd gen core i5 i know its old but its still working (dont have money yet to upgrade) and my mobo is just an simple asus h61 something i dont remember

the mobo is max ram frequency is 1600mhz

i have an already existing 2gb 1600mhz generic ram ( coz its combo when i bought it that time ) and about a month ago i put an 8gb 1866mhz hyperx fury ram and it works (i know its overkill or something but it works)

but when i remove the old 2gb ram 1600mhz ram it doesnt boot up and when i put back the 2gb it boot up again what is the problem of my pc ? i want to replace my old ram ill put another 8gb pls help me T.T

Solution
Of course, as long as your mobo has at least 2 memory slots and supports at least 16GB of memory. I read specs of several asus H61 mobos and they all do. So, if it works with one stick, it should work with 2 as well - but you need to make sure they are identical. Brand, model, series, exactly the same. Even the slight difference can lead to RAM incompatibility in some cases.
Thy clearing the CMOS on your motherboard (remove the mobo battery, leave it out for half a minute or so, and then put it back in). Of course, unplug the PC from the wall beforehand.

Then put only a single 8 GB module, without the 2GB one. Use appropriate slot - it matters (your mobo manual states which one should be used for a single memory module).
