I have 3 of the full-size external USB hard drives and I don't want to remove them from their cases. I also have a toddler.

Is there such a thing as a box/case that will house them as well as ventilate? Or is there something I might not know about that could be modified to serve this purpose?

I've considered just building something myself but I don't want anything too Kludge-y and if something already exists I'd like to take advantage of that first.

(Also if I went to build it myself, I'd want it in some kind of Plexi-glass and I don't know the first thing about working with the stuff)

Again: I would like to leave them inside their prospective cases.....and I don't own a dremel

Solution

B) There is almost always an intermediate connector, between the case and the regular SATA ports on the drive.
Remove that, and you have a regular SATA connection.

If u insist on this constraint, the only option would be custom and bring out your power tools, and I don't think it would look good either regardless of your skills. I say this after years of DIY'ing my own stuff.

Not removing from their external cases is not a simple buy. That would require a custom box of some sort.

For bare drives, something like this:

Otherwise, you'll have to make some custom box.

using a laptop as a permanent placement....
and I don't want to pull them out of their cases because
A) don't want to void any warranties
B) every time I have, there's some kind of proprietary connection and they aren't basic SATA

I assumed there wasn't an easy way but I wanted to make sure I was right.

Full size mains powered drives will always be standard bare sata drives inside.
Its the 2.5inch portables that sometimes come with a full on soldered usb3 controller.

Thought about a cheap cheap matx or htpc style case to drop them all in??

Front fan /rear fan will keep them cool & all you'd need would be a cheap 12dc psu to power them.
