HDD Not registering on BIOS

I have a 2TB Seagate HDD that I was attempting to install in a new PC build that I recently completed. The HDD was in a external storage controller, however it was easily removed from the controller to be installed directly to the MB and installed in my desktop PC. The drive powers up when connected, however it isn't recognized by the MB, either in BIOS or via storage utility on windows.

I have attempted different SATA cables, using a external HDD USB 3.0 caddy, all with no affect.

I also opened the drive, thinking that the head arms were seized on the disks, however they were resting properly. Then powered up while open (I know, bad idea, what can I say, I like to live on the edge) and the drive spins up, arms go out into the disks 4x, first about 25%, 50%, 75%, then 100% out into the disk.

I'm at a loss. If MB specs or HDD specs would help I could provide those... I've tried it connected to multiple devices and it won't register anywhere... Its as if the SATA terminal is dead, can that happen?

THANKS!

Hi there ericroosma,

That is really unpleasant. :(
I believe that the drive was already dead before opening it up, taking into account all the things you've tried. Though, with opening the drive up, you exposed the platters to dust contaminated environment.
I believe the drive is unusable.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

@ Barty1884, it does not work when using USB, and yes other drives do work when connected to the MB.

@D_Know_WD , I'm not sure what you mean the drive is dead? It spins up, heads are intact, heads arms are operable... no impact damage/visible damage to disks... And yes I know opening up the drive isn't the best option, however being open for approximatly 30 seconds while quickly inspecting and powering up has never contaminated any drives I have worked on previously, obviously this could be the exception, but I wouldn't automatically assume that just yet?
