Should I increase my RAM?

I have an ASUS desktop, with an A8-5500, and 8 GIGS of DDR3. I'm a PhD candidate, and when i am researching, I have tons of windows/tabs open. I'm seeing slowdowns at times, and was wondering if upgrading to 16 GIGS might help. RAM is cheap enough to where this is no big deal, but I really can't get a new computer right now.

Would this increase make a difference in performance?

What do you mean by ton's of tabs? It takes A LOT of tabs to take up 8gb of ram like way more than someone could ever keep organized, windows should also pop up a warning message saying your running out of RAM if you are
