Hello all,

I have a fairly old gaming computer at home with an Intel Core i5 2500k, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and an EVGA GTX 780 as my GPU.

I was considering buying the new PS4 Pro to replace my gaming rig, but I realized that upgrading my current computer with a new CPU would be almost the same as buying the console. As for my current GPU, I think it's still powerful enough for a year or two. What do you think ?

I was considering buying this for my computer:

I like the parts separately (just used MSI Mortar on one PC- it is exceptionally built for the price), however I think it is not the best way to go. I'll split the answer into few parts:
1. K-series processor needs Z170 chipset in order to overclock it. Otherwise, 6600 is just as good and a bit cheaper.
2. Overclocked 2500K is still a fast processor, so if your system is overclocked- going for i5 6600K + 8GB ram, same GPU is only a slight upgrade and is not worth the money spent. I'd go either i7 6700K OC + 16GB ram, or no upgrade for now.
3. With i5 2500k OC, much better upgrade would be a GTX1070 + 1440p monitor. Both in frame rates, and feel.

However- if your 2500K is not overclocked because of the motherboard- upgrade to 6600/6600K makes sense.
