I currently have a pretty solid gaming computer but off-loading the encoding to a 2nd rig would be a dream.

Is the right way to go is a low priced Xeon CPU with a low level Mobo, some DDR3 ram and call it a day?

Solution
I don't know of any quality PSU's, at that wattage, so that will need replaced. Assuming that is a Z97 board here. You could just go with a 4790k, if you are not needing this for any kind of gaming, and use the integrated graphics.

Sorry I should of included more details, I apologize.

I already have a few pieces:

Case
Powersupply (640 Watt)
CDROM Drive
MSI Gaming 7 Mobo (From an old build of mine)

Looking to spend up to like 500-600?

Ah thanks for this :) And yes this PC would be purely for encoding. Literally nothing else.
