Hey guys! So I built a gaming computer about a year ago and have had no problems at all up until now. One day not long ago I went to turn on my computer and it threw me into BIOS which doesn't happen unless I press the keys to get in to BIOS. I noticed in the BIOS my Hard Drive was not detected, I just hit save and exit a few times, the computer rebooted about 4 times until it jumped into windows and all was well again. Until I went to turn off my computer before I went to bed, and now it's giving me this problem again except now it has been about 40 reboots and it still won't go to windows. I checked my SATA cables they were fine but I tried some different cables just in case and still no luck. What baffles me most is that the computer worked just fine until one day it just decided not to detect my hard drive out of no where. Please help I don't know what to do and I need this computer for college. If anyone can help me solve this issue I wouldn't mind giving a tip on Paypal at all, maybe like 10 USD. Anyways, any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi there Krontimus,

That is unpleasant. :(

Can you feel the drive even spinning up?
I see that you've used a different SATA cable. Yet, it would be nice to use a different power one as well. You can even attach the drive to another SATA port.

In case the issue persists, I think you need to try the drive on another computer. That way, absolutely sure if there is something wrong with your system or the HDD itself.

If the drive is not recognized by BIOS on the other computer as well, you can:
- RMA the drive if it is under warranty.
- Contact a data recovery company if there's something really important on it. You will not be able to access it with software tools by yourself.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,

No error codes or beeps, at least none that I can hear.

Yes I do see the system date and time.

As for the CMOS battery I am not sure how to check that.

Thank you for your input.

I'm sorry I accidentally picked this as the solution, is there a way to undo that?

As for what you said, I have tried different SATA ports and cables, I have not checked to see if the drive is vibrating yet so I should do that. I think the problem is the MOBO I might need a new one, there are some weird issues. For example if I unplug my DVD drive from the MOBO the MOBO is no longer able to get to BIOS I just get a black screen and my computer does nothing but when I plug the DVD drive back in it magically fixes it very strange.

Hello, guys. I've had the same exact problem with my PC. One day out of nowhere it decided not to read my HDD. I kept trying to boot it on and it happened just as the OP described, until it couldn't read Win 10 anymore.

I was told this could mean the HDD is about to colapse, but I'm not sure.

Any news on this situation?
Peace!
