Hay guys can you help with sum advise i want to use a wifi camera in a portable pack that can be used from 100m to up to 1km was thinking of using a security wifi camera that can connect direct to my phone or tablet putting it in a good box with a 12v battery and adding a 25dbi directional box antenna would the 25dbi antena be able to push the signal out to 1km it will be open line of sight no obstructions need to try make the whole thing in a small portable pack

Every packet has to be acknowledged by the receiver. So even if you aren't sending data you are sending acknowledgements....
You have to be careful when you are going longer distances. Clear line of sight is not as simple as it sounds. The signal will spread and hit the ground and cause a interfering signal. It is not a huge problem at 1km but the recommended height above any obstacle is still 4meters at 1km. It in general will he hard to get a phone to work like this mostly because of the tiny antenna and low power radios. You like will have to use a solution similar to what kanewolf suggested connected to your router or other wireless AP to allow you phone to be able to connect.

Ok shot was looking at that option but was hoping not to have to have a second box and battery that i have to charge and carry around so u think that boosting the signal even very high the phone or iPad will still battle to pick up the signal i only need to get a video feed from the camera won't be needing to try transmit back to the device
