HELLO GUYS!

to start off, i play at 1080p (for now), maybe i will buy a 1440p in the long run (2years on 1080p at least). I still have an r9 280x which i am about to sell for around 130€ (around 150$).. And i can get some of the newer cards at a really good value. So my question is, what to buy.. i really am not into spending for a 1070, just because i think its overkill (i do have the money..)

So the cards that i am choosing from and the actual price i am gonna pay for them are as follows:

- Radeon R9 Fury Nitro Tri-X OC, 4096 MB HBM (i get it for 250€) minus the 130€ from the old card = 120€

- 8192MB Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro+ OC (i get it for 235€) minus the 130€ = 105€

or should i wait for something new, but i really dont want to spend any more money, because those two cards seem really convenient for the small price i would pay.

What do you suggest? Thanks, Jan.

As a Fury owner, I can't imagine you wouldn't be thrilled with the performance of a Fury. Some I thoughts I would share with you as I look at the future of my card:

-HBM - As long as AMD continues to write drivers that will utilize HBM, the Vram limitations shouldn't be an issue. I have only had one game get close to 3.5gb of usuage and thats Paragon. (1440p, Ultra Settings)
-HBM2? - Conversly from above, the hope is there are no radical changes between HBM and HBM 2 that would cause significant variation in driver updating for AMD. No reason to think there is, but given the relatively low sales of Fury, Nano, and Fury X cards, if there is a significant difference, its possible to see a scenario where HBM driver support could be sub...

-Cross Fire - I'm currently in the market for a used Fury to crossfire with my existing one. New prices on Amazon are now under $300 usd, so the used market or maybe even a black Firday deal should yeild another Fury at a great price/performance ratio. Of course, at 1080, that would be complete overkill in your case, but at 1440 in the future, this would be a powerhouse combo. (Assuming the driver support is there)
-Multi GPU - It looks like multi-GPU is going to be in the cards for developers moving forward into DX12. That opens the door to Vram stacking, meaning, the Cross Fire example above now has 8gb of vram. Still not much on how real this is, or when we will see it utilized by developers, but the ramifications are pretty exciting.

The most compelling reasoning behind my own purchase was HBM. To me, HBM represents next generation technology in a (now previous) generation GPU that I belive will make the Fury relevant for a very long time to come (in GPU years).

thank you for this..

I think that the card is worth the price that i can get it for (250€ or around 280$). Though as you said before, maybe it is worth waiting for another month or two (december), because the card could go down a bit more..
The only problem now is that i have already sold my GPU today, so i am stuck with my intel hd 4600 :D

on newegg, the xfx r9 fury x is ~$375 right now. i bought mine when it first went on sale at 429 and its the best video card ive ever owned.
it slaughters everything. without breaking a sweat. ive stress tested it for hours on end and rarely will it go over 55*C. ive never had an issue with coil whine or anything. im running an amd fx 8350 OC'd to 4.4ghz right now with 32gb ddr 2133. The witcher 3 on ultra settings (minus nvidia hairworks) and it never EVER drops below 100fps. buy it. seriously. buy it.

Owning the sapphire nitro fury oc+ i can confirm it is absolutely a great deal for the price they are asking at this moment. If u look at benchmarks from NEW games (using dx12) u will notice that it is on par with the 1070 in 4k and 1440p, but it is a lot cheaper... Best card for the money right now.

In my country electricity is expensive, and 220W max for a 480 makes a lot of difference with a 375W due the Fury... I know that is not a big deal in USA and other countries but in Spain this big companies are exploiting the people with high bills to make much more benefits.

Obviously the Fury is decreasing its value because of that. Nothing else.

Hi everyone!

just to let everyone know what happened in the mean time..

So i have decided to go with a sapphire 480 4gb, which i got for around 210€. It was just my luck, that the card came broken (some sort of artifacts in games), so i had to send it back to germany for a replacement.. After waiting for some time (and i did get a bit nervous at the end) they couldn't find my gpu that i sent back and it delayed everything for another week.

BUT!! in that week, the company which i bought the gpu from, had a 1 day deal only, a big discount for the the Gigabyte G1 gaming rx 480 8gb, which went for almost the same price as the 480 4gb variants

And because they couldn't find my gpu that i have returned for that long, they didn't charge me extra for the 8gb one.

So to sum it up, i have waited for some time (about 3 weeks) and i am super happy that i did, because i got the Gigabyte g1 rx 480 8gb for 210€ and it works like magic!

It already came with the new bios, so there is no overheating and i have also changed the fan curve on the gpu to suite my needs, so it never goes beyond 70 degrees celsius, which is awesome!

Am very happy with the end result now :)
