Hi,

After toying with the idea of building my first pc I have decide not to because of work commitments and a 1 year boy running around my feet.lol

My option comes down to these 2 pre built pc's and I would like your advice please.

Am a light gamer only really playing Football Manager and Cities Skyline. I do plan to try out Planet Coaster and the new Rollercoaster Tycoon once they have been released. My budget is around £500. I was looking at a pc that was coming in at nearly £600 but I don't think I really need to spend so much as I am not doing much gamming. I also am happy to cut cost on a graphics car and upgrade it at a later stage.

I'm just not sure about what cpu or weather its worth getting a motherboard with 2 or 4 ram slots for future ram upgrades.

1. i5-6500 (3.2GHz)
MSI Z170-a (4 ram slots)
8 GB DDR4
GeForce® GT 730 2GB GDDR5
£601

2. i3-6100 (3.70GHz)
MSI B150M (4 ram slots)
8 GB DDR4
GeForce® GT 750 Ti
£487.20

I think for my needs that 2 would be fine for me. However I just don't know if I am better with the i5.

Thanks

Hello,

I'll go for 2nd option, because the i5 processor benchmark score 10k and the i3 processor almost 5k.. So the i5 is better than i3.
But it's also important the storage device, try to get a SSD.. otherwise you can't see the real power of processor or memory.

Hi,

I plan to add an SSD later. At the moment am just looking for something to get me off the ground and running. Adding new things over time is my plan. Not sure weather to go for the better cpu and upgrade around that. Rather than upgrade around the i3.
Thanks

You'll buy a pc for many years, don't try to save 100GBP, and after that I think you'll be sorry, try to get the better cpu and the better option.

Where are you doing the premade from? The i5 build would be better in the long term, but if the people making your system are flexible on the build you might be able to change it around to get more value for the money. The Z series motherboard, unless you need the bells & whistles, isn't needed for non overclocking or SLI builds. Going to an H series board might give you some better options in pricing.

Been looking around and found www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ to be the best for price. They are custom built. I was looking at the "Infinity X33 SE" for £499 and changing it slightly. I'm starting to think my first choice for the extra £100 would be worth it in the long term.

I just went through their configurator and if you go with the H110 option and setup a i5-6500 on the H110 mobo you can get 16GB of RAM, a 750ti, 240GB Samsung 850 Evo, 2TB HD, and a 600w PSU for under 600. Just try out the different options and you can put together a decent build for under the 600 mark and not have to give up really much.

That's really good for that price. What pc did u go to for on there home page. Do u think it's worth getting a motherboard with 4 ram slots rather than 2? I think it's an extra £20 for 4. Think both take the 1 graphics card but I think it will be many many years before I will ever need 2 cards in my pc.thanks

I started in the Cyberpower H110 Configurator page. I stuck with most of the preset listing stuff but increased the CPU, RAM, GPU, PSU, SSD and HDD. The H110 motherboard option they give should honestly be fine if you outfit with 16GB. SLI is a nice option to have, but the extra cost is probably not worth it unless you know for sure you're going to do it. Otherwise that extra 140 would be much better put towards RAM or SSD or a better GPU.
