Hey you tech savvy people!
I bought a used Radeon 5850 for my father in law to replace his GTX 250.
I'm unsure of what motherboard model he has - all I know is that it's Gigabyte-Intel.
I've put the 5850 in to replace the 250 and the PC won't even boot to bios. It only gives me a loud BEEEEEP and that's it.
I didn't uninstall the NVIDIA drivers that he had on his HDD, so could this be the problem?
5850 says it requires a minimum of 500W.
His PSU has 550W, however, it doesn't seem to have the 6-pin connectors, instead, the GPU came with two, but they don't go directly to the PSU. Instead I just connected the 6 pin connectors to the flat cables which are used for things like HDD or DVD.
Could it be the cables? They are 6-pin connectors on one end, and flat like those of HDD.
The GPU cables look like this: http://www.cablesdirect.co.uk/write/images/products/RB-527.jpg
Oh yeah, I tested the 5850 in my own PC and it works fine.
Update: I plug the 5850 while unplugging the dvdrom cable cause they share it - it worked.
I plug the dvdrom back in and it stopped, and won't work after unplugging it.
I unplugged the sound card - it worked with the dvdrom unplugged. I plug the dvdrom back in and it doesn't work...
