This will be a somewhat long winded post to explain how, what and why I want to do this.

I'm usually pretty good at sizing up performance but I'm stumped on this one. I picked up a GTX 670 the other day in a craigslist trade and want to upgrade my nephews computer a little. He's used to playing on my 2500k and R9 290 setup with BF3 and BF4, Planet Coaster alpha and RCT World.

I had built them a machine out of my old desktop, a GTX 460 768mb, 965 Black Edition and a decent biostar board. Games played decent on it but never great due to the 460. The board fried, cpu power connector burnt up,n as did my last biostar board so we picked them up an HP ProTower that we could reuse the components in, all but CPU. It is a socket 1156 and will use up to and i7, I believe the 860 or 870. So here is my question...

Would it be better to get a cheap AM3 board and pop the 965be in it with the 970, or upgrade the cpu in the HP to an i5 750? No over clocking will be done, I never could get my 965 to overclock much, however my 2500k sits at 4.2ghz at 1.19 volts lol. Just need to know what road to take. I also have a spare 64gb ssd I'm gonna toss in there.

I hate computers sometimes.
