PSU dead? isolated and tested using testing tool (instead of a paper clip!)

I have a EVGA Supenova NEX650G. My machine has recently died on me while debugging W10 mouse stutter issues (just tried turning off Fast Start and was worried I screwed it!) However I think I have isolated it to a dead PSU - what a coincidence!

Can you confirm the following please: I've disconnected the PSU from my PC and installed the 24 pin Testing Tool.

Just to confirm if I turn the PSU on (plugged in) the PSU fan should also run shouldn't it. I have also plugged a case fan into the PSU directly (3pin port) which I assume with the testing tool should run too? Both the PSU fan and the case fan run for a second, and then stop. However, when plugged into the Mobo etc the GPU power light is on. Is this a dead PSU?

Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like it is basically the "paperclip test". Allows it to turn on when powered up. If the PSU fan didn't turn on, there's two possibilities. 1) the PSU is dead. 2) The PSU has a temp sensitive fan that only comes on when needed. You really need a voltage tester or one of those PSU testers I linked to in order to find out.

But if you had a case fan plugged in as well, and it started... then I would assume the PSU was working. But if that case fan only ran for a second or so, then I would say the PSU is defective. Or your shorting plug came loose. You can do the same thinkg as the plug with a paperclip; short the green wire to any black wire...

Figured as much well thanks, i think the device fan only turns on with high temps so that us why i double checked with a case fan, EVGA are brilliant they are arranging a RMA

It pays to buy quality. They have been equally as good with their gfx cards.
