Hello

I can only get a motherboard for my i7-2600 (not k), with two dims.

Is 8 gb of ddr3 ram enough for a modern gaming computer with a god power gfx card.

Please help me, as I am about to bay said mother board

Thanks in advance, Christian

Ok. I also have a computer based around a i7-6700K with 32 GB DDR4, but I have to use that for other purposes.

Will the i7-2600 with 8 gb ddr3 ram with an MSI 970 GTX 4GB Gaming gfx be able to handle new games?

And will it be for the forseeable future? Could you make an educated guess as to when it would be too slow?

What about a system bassed om my i7-6700k with 32-64 DDR4, of course wth changing gfx, right now: 970 4 GB
Can you put a time on that? How long that systen will work for moden ganes?

Thanks, you have all been super helpful, I am an older programmer, so maybe I can give something back.

It's difficult to even guess when something will become obsolete. CPU development has slowed lately and improvements have become more marginal. Based on past progress, you should get another couple of years from the i5 and at least 5 or 6 from the i7.

Having gone to 16gb...i have ever seen a game use more than 5.5. So 7.8 total used with other stuff.

People run games with 10^5 chrome tabs open, 5 different music players and some blu rays playing while running some CFD software. Then you'll need more.

For me, I just use the crazy x button before playing a game.
