What router should I get for my Internet speed?

Hello,

Yesterday I upgraded my package from 40 mbps download to 200 mbps download. I speedtested the modem and it does reach 200 mbps download and 70mbps upload flawlessly, but here's the thing. I need a router that can support that speed but I do not know which to get. Can you please list me some reputable routers that work perfectly with my speed?

Thank you

Cat5e will be fine but if you can get cat6 cheaper it won't hurt, the port controls the speed and both cable can run at 1gbit.

Only concern would be to make sure you get a copper cable (no aluminum) and that the wire size be 22-24 awg. Used to be this was not a issue but you see all kinds of non conforming cable like those flat ones amazon sells.
Obviously you will need one with gigabit wan and lan ports to start. In general as long as you do not buy the cheapest router you can find it should be able to run 200m. That said there is a huge difference between 1 user running 200m and 100 users running 2m each.

In general you should be ok with any of the major brand names. Most difference are going to be extra software features that only you can decide if have value. Unless you have specific needs I would buy either a dual band router that claims 600m (ie 300+300) or if you have end devices that can use 802.11ac I would look at routers that claim 1200m (300+900). You have to be careful of the big number trap. A router will only run as fast as your end devices so it does little good to buy a really fancy router if your end devices do not also have support.

None of the above matters a lot if you are going to run wired connections...and you will have a hard job getting 200m even on the best wireless. Again your end device will likely be the factor that limits the max wireless speed you can get.

The key feature is to make sure the router has gig ports.

Oh so if I'm running wired connection on my computer, and I want maximum speed on it, should I just get a long ethernet cable to reach my room? And should the cable be cat5e/cat6 etc.? Because the modem I have has gigabit ports. It is a Alcatel-Lucent I-240W-Q.
